The Women’s Center is proud to announce the 8th Annual Speaker Event: Women, Words, & Wisdom. Dr. Alesia Ford Burse, a dynamic keynote speaker, will inspire women – and men – to go confidently in the direction of their goals with a special call to help others along the way.
The evening also includes recognition of emerging leaders, “Unsung Sheroes and Heroes,” who are making a positive difference in the lives of women in our community. Honorees demonstrate professional influence through a combination of career growth, innovation, initiative, and accomplishments.
The evening promises to be fun and informative, and will raise funds to advance the Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s mission.
About The Speaker
Dr. Alesia Ford Burse has served as the Jacksonville Field Office Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) since April 2014.
In addition to her 20+ years of HUD service, Dr. Scott-Ford has served as Founder and Executive Director of two community based organizations in Tampa; Vice President for Grants at the University of South Florida; owned a Consulting Firm; was a Professor of Gerontology at the University of South Florida (USF) and later was the Founding Chair of the Gerontology Department at Edward Waters College (EWC) in Jacksonville. She is also responsible for getting the first Charter School approved in Clay County.
Alesia graduated from the University of Florida with a Degree in Religion and a minor in Chemistry. She completed her graduate education at Atlanta University studying Sociology with a concentration in Gerontology and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in Applied Anthropology with a Specialization in Gerontology. After obtaining her doctorate degree she completed post-doctoral work at the University of Michigan and Harvard University.
