The Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s Rape Recovery Team invites you to join us in raising our voices against sexual violence on Wednesday, April 29th, 2020. On this day, individuals worldwide will participate in an international “Denim Day”, choosing to wear jeans in support of survivors of sexual assault.
This campaign began following an Italian Supreme Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans at the time of her assault. On the day following this ruling, women in
the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity. The Italian ruling has since been overturned, but Denim Day has continued to serve as a representation of this solidarity, providing an opportunity for others to speak out against the destructive attitudes that surround sexual assault. To learn more about this global movement, visit https://www.denimdayinfo.org/.
We are inviting local businesses to join us in this global movement by encouraging their employees to wear jeans on April 29th for a donation of $3 to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s Rape Recovery Team. We will provide materials to participating organizations, such as flyers and stickers, to help promote this event to employees. All participating organizations will also have their logo featured on our website and social media pages to highlight their support.
Donations from this event will go directly towards providing services for those affected by sexual violence.
Organizations that would like to participate can register here: https://forms.gle/i9tfpNWr1PdDBMcf9.
Donations can be made online through the following link: https://give.womenscenterofjax.org/denim-day-2020 or we can arrange a time to pick up cash/check donations.
