UNF Take Back the Night

Wednesday, April 3, 2019
7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
John A. Delaney Student Union, Building 58E, Osprey Plaza

“Take Back the Night” aims to unite the community to take a stand against interpersonal violence/abuse and to honor as well as remember those who have survived and those who have lost their lives. During the program, there will be an opportunity for survivors to speak and share their story.

For more than 40 years, “Take Back the Night” events have been organized by colleges and communities around the globe and provide an opportunity for women to break the silence of abuse as well as victimization, bringing people together to stand in unity against interpersonal violence in their communities.

This event is free and open to the public.

Denim Day

April 24, 2019

The Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s Rape Recovery Team invites you to join us in raising our voices against sexual violence on Wednesday, April 24th 2019. On this day, individuals worldwide will participate in an international “Denim Day”, choosing to wear jeans in support of survivors of sexual assault. “Denim Day” is an easy way for your business to stand against violence by helping to assist survivors in our very own community.

Each year, “Denim Day” seeks to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence and victim-blaming culture. The campaign began following an Italian Supreme Court decision to overturn a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans at the time of her assault. On the day following this ruling, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans to work in solidarity. The Italian ruling has since been overturned, but “Denim Day” has continued to serve as a representation of this solidarity, providing an opportunity for others to speak out against the destructive attitudes that surround sexual assault.

We are looking for organizations to partner with us by allowing their employees to wear jeans on this day in exchange for a $2 donation to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville. If your organization would like to participate, please provide the information below and we will reach out to you soon.

Thank you for all you do to support survivors!
