The Art & Soul Program at the
Women's Center of Jacksonville, Inc. Presents:

"Surviving to Thriving",
April 3 - June 16

A new exhibition of women's art entitled Surviving to Thriving opened on April 3, 2008 at the Women's Center of Jacksonville with a "Speak Out" by survivors. The exhibition will remain open through June 16. The public is invited to view the works at the Women's Center located at 5644 Colcord Avenue, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

This is the 5th annual exhibition of art created by survivors. These creations, dramatic and thought provoking, are only enhanced by the stories that accompany them. Visit this exhibit and see the power of healing through art. Join us for an artistic look at survival during Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

In addition to the Art and Soul exhibitions, related lunchtime lectures and workshop accompany each show. Surviving to Thriving programs include a yoga workshop and a talk about the sea turtle patrol.

Yoga with Brenda Starr Walker will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 10 am to 12 pm. The class will cost $25 and will be held at Avondale Dance Studio in Riverside, 1560-5 Hamilton Street (off Roosevelt Blvd. behind Crispers). *Class size limited to 25-30. Call the Women's Center of Jacksonville at 722-3000 to make a reservation.

Beach Patrol with Sandra Baker Hinton will be offered on Friday, May 23 at 12 pm. This talk is free and will be held at the Downtown Library, 303 North Laura Street. Ms. Hinton, a local artist and gallery owner, will discuss the fascinating work she is doing with sea turtles.

The Art and Soul Program began in 2003 with the Women's Center of Jacksonville's (WCJ) commitment to provide a woman-friendly environment for women artists to display and sell their art. A percentage of all art sales benefit the WCJ. Art and Soul has proven to be an empowering experience for the artists and an ongoing cultural experience for clients, staff, and visitors. WCJ believes that art, with its ability to educate, heal, entertain, and inspire, has a place in all aspects of the programs and services of the agency.

Exhibiting art is in keeping with the Center's mission to nurture mind, body, and spirit. The purpose of this program is to celebrate and increase awareness of women made art.
